YOU SAID YES TO YOUR DRESS.......NOW WHAT?

Congratulations on choosing your wedding dress! We are looking forward to working with you as you prepare for your wedding day. Now that you have purchased your dress, we would like to inform you of the next steps in the process, as well as the timeline associated with each step. Please review this information carefully and hold onto it for future reference. Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns that you have ~ we are here to help!

Immediately:
To ensure accuracy and timeliness your dress and other items are ordered as soon as you make your payment and complete your paperwork.

Gown Arrival:
In most cases, your gown will arrive at Silk Bridal Easton about 5 to 7 months prior to your wedding (unless we have discussed another timeline with you because of a rush or any other special circumstance). Once your dress arrives you will be contacted via text and email to schedule a meet your gown! Please remember that dresses may also come in early if you are lucky enough to have ordered a style/color/size that is already in production!

 4-6 months to go:

Shop for Your Undergarments
The undergarments you’ll be wearing on your wedding day (bra, spanx, etc.) are required for your first fitting. To meet your undergarment needs, we can refer you to For the Girls located on Second Street in downtown Easton. Ring their shop for a consultation at (816) 518-1272. If you opt to buy your undergarments elsewhere, take into account the bustline, back neckline and waistline of your gown. Bra cups are also an option for some, and they can be provided to you prior to your first fitting ($25).

Choose Your Accessories
If you have not yet chosen your bridal accessories, it’s best to schedule an appointment prior to your first fitting or do nso nat your 'Meet the Gown' appointment so that we can coordinate delivery prior to your first fitting. If you’re traveling from a distance, your accessories appointment can be scheduled when you pick up your gown.

Select Your Shoes
Choose shoes that are comfortable and fit your vision. We have amazing bridal flip flops both with or without heels to soothe your aching feet! Please schedule an appointment with us if you are interested in trying on shoes from our collections. Please be advised that you will need to have the shoes that you will be wearing with your gown before your first fitting. So be sure not to put off finding this important piece of your wedding day wardrobe!

Schedule your first fitting.
At this point you want to get onto the calendar for your first fitting, the actual appointment will not be for another month or 2 but you want to make sure that you are on the calendar. While Silk Bridal Easton does not offer in store alterations, we can recommend several amazing seamstresses in the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas. If you need a referral please let us know.

Schedule your dress pick up
If you have purchased a package that includes storage, Silk Bridal Easton will store your dress until alterations. You will need to schedule a time to pick up your dress so that you can take it with you to your seamstress.

2-3 Months to Go

Have Your First Fitting
You'll most likely have three fittings to get your dress altered to fit you perfectly. It's important to get the timing of each of the alterations appointments right. Have your dress altered too early and you may end up with a dress that doesn’t fit properly—you may lose or gain weight after your gown is altered and then you will have to pay more to redo alterations. Alter your dress too late and you won’t have enough time to make all the alterations and may incur a rush charge. Most gowns will need at least some sort of alteration, and it will be impossible to tell what needs to be done until you are in your dress.

6 to 8 Weeks to Go

Decide on Your "Something Old, New, Borrowed and Blue"
If you want to include these customs in your ensemble, you may want to have them before your final fitting. For instance, if you're planning to sew a blue ribbon or keepsake pocket to the inside of your dress, you can discuss this with your seamstress while she's making your other alterations.
2 to 3 Weeks to Go
Practice Walking in Your Shoes
Strut around in your shoes at home to make sure they aren't too high or too stiff. This way, you'll have enough time to break them in, buy a new pair or snag a second, more comfy, pair.

1-3 Day to Go

Stash Your Stuff
Buy a handheld steamer and put together an emergency kit (safety pins, fashion tape)—it's better to be prepared. Your gown will most likely need slight touch ups steaming since it has been in the garment bag. Some venues have steamers on site but for a piece of mind you may want to have your own handheld. Make sure you have all of the parts of your ensemble in one place. Everything from your gown and veil to your jewelry and shoes should go together, especially if you're switching venues after your makeup and hair are done.

Wedding Day

Have Fun!
Happy wedding day! Just a couple of to-dos left: First, give your dress a final steaming and schedule about 30 minutes to get dressed (a bridesmaid should help you). Then relax and enjoy the moment.

Days After the wedding
Have a trusted friend or relative drop off your dress at Silk Bridal Easton for gown cleaning and preservation while you are away on your honeymoon. This step is important to remove stains as quickly as possible so that you have a beautifully clean and preserved dress. Your dress will arrive directly at your house 4-6 weeks later!

And finally:
Enjoy this new chapter of your life!
